A Rural Crime Watch Program has brought people in the area together to build a safer community.

That's the goal is of the Rural Crime watch program 370 in Humboldt. Wednesday night was their information and enrollment meeting for people in Humboldt and surrounding area.

A Rural Crime Watch program allows members to stay in contact 24/7 about crimes happening in the community as they happen. Not only does it help people feel safe, but it's also a tremendous help to the RCMP said Jodie Hergott, Secretary for the Rural Crime Watch Program in Humboldt.

"This gives the RCMP an extra set of eyes and ears to help gather evidence and to let them know if more officers need to come into the area, but it's just keeping the area safe and saying no to bad activity."

The program was adopted by Humboldt earlier this summer after a meeting.

"We held elections that night and formed an executive and the executives have made have met a few times since then."

People could from anywhere in the area could receive information on the program and even register. 40-50 people have joined the Rural Crime Watch Program so far as people took part in presentations at the meeting from speakers on the program.

Anyone who registers receives a sign to put up in front of their home.
