Team Prairie Central welcomed athletes from across the district to Watrous on Sunday for a pair of workshops.

Hosted as a preparation clinic ahead of the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford, over 100 athletes made the trek to hear from experts in the fields of nutrition and mental training.

Chef de Mission Stephanie Cuddington says that they take a look at healthy eating options while the athletes are away from home.

"They go right through the menu that will be at the games. They'll be able to identify better choices and that sort of thing."

Cuddington says that in addition to helping athletes prepare for the games, it's an opportunity for them to perhaps introduce something new to their training regiment.

"We hope that they will be able to take away something that makes sense for them and implement that into their routine."

Along with the healthy eating options, attendees were taken through the mental side of sport, and how they can best train themselves to be ready for all scenarios.

"Preparation and having the right mindset going into preparation is certainly a big focal point," says Cuddington.

She added that the workshops were something that was part of the lead up to the games years ago, and they were looking to bring new knowledge to athletes this time around.
