The Province of Saskatchewan is inviting you to cast a line this Family Day weekend for free.

Anyone can fish without a license on any of Saskatchewan's public waters that have an open sport fishing season.

"Ice fishing is a popular activity for many Saskatchewan people and is a great activity for families," stated Environment Minister Herb Cox. "Coinciding with Family Day long weekend, this is a great opportunity for families to spend some time together while gaining a better appreciation for our environment and natural resources."

"We have one of the best fisheries in North America," noted Sask Environment spokesman Bob Skatfeld, who added a reminder to test ice thickness prior to traveling on it.

A relatively mild winter has left some areas too thin. Good ice for walking on is considered to be atleast ten centimetres.

All fishing regulations do still apply for free fishing weekend, including possession limits.

The free fishing weekend extends through until the end of Family Day Monday.
