Following much backlash after the decision to cut nearly $5 million in funding to libraries in Saskatchewan, the government is set to review that decision.

Premier Brad Wall announced in a statement on Thursday that Education Minister Don Morgan will review the library funding cuts.

"We know the budget would be unpopular and said so prior to its introduction," said Wall in the statement. "This budget was not about trying to win popularity, but rather to do what is best for the province's finances and economy."

Regional libraries, which would include the Wapiti and Parkland areas, which cover libraries in the Humboldt area, saw a hit of $3.5 million to their funding.

Rallies and protests have been taking place across the province in support of public libraries. In Humboldt, book enthusiasts packed Civic Park on April 7 to show their support.
