On Friday night the Saskatchewan Minister of Finance was the guest speaker at a Saskatchewan Party fundraiser for both Humboldt MLA Donna Harpauer as well as Greg Brkich, the MLA for Arm River-Watrous.

Kevin Doherty said he appreciated the opportunity to visit the constituency and support his colleagues.

"It was held in Lanigan because there is some boundary changes occurring in the those two constituencies such that I believe the Town of Lanigan was in Donna's constituency and now it's switching over to Greg's in the upcoming election. Nonetheless it's kind of an intersection between those two constituencies and it was a great evening, a good crowd and an opportunity to ask all three of us some questions."

The Rose Valley born Doherty used the evening to continue to boast the province's diversified economy, the population increase as well as the low unemployment rate, he also showed no qualms about the trouble the price of oil has had on the province's bottom line.

"Our mining sector is still very vibrant, our manufacturing sector is still strong, our wholesale trade leads the country, lowest unemployment rate in all of Canada, we have more people moving to Saskatchewan than leaving so that's a strong indication of the vibrancy of our economy. There is no question we are facing some challenges here and I think what I have heard the Premier say, I know I have heard the Premier say in recent public commentary, 'we are going to do no further harm to the economy.'

Doherty added he enjoys visiting rural constituencies with the chance to hear some different concerns for voters.

"It's just a great opportunity for us to go out and hear directly from people in those respective areas, I get personal feedback on ideas and issues and the concerns that are raised."

"We're two and a half months from the next provincial election here so it gave me an opportunity to talk about the fact that this is not a referendum on Brad Wall's government, this is a choice that people have to make," Doherty concluded.

Voters head to the polls on April 4th.

Side note-The Humboldt constituency will include Watrous in it's title for the upcoming election, it also includes the Town of Allen and Lanigan. The Watrous-Arm River riding is now just Arm River which covers Davidson, Outlook, Raymore and Hanley.
