Sask Central Victims Services was bringing awareness about what they do in the Humboldt area on Wednesday.

The organization hosted a fundraising barbecue at the Humboldt Co-op Food Store and were providing details on their services.

It is all part of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.

Coordinator Tracey Shewciw says this year's theme is Empowering Resilience.

"It is all about having victims being able to identify themselves as more than just a victim," she explained. "If we can make them realize they are so much more than that, it will help them move past what has happened to them a lot quicker and they are a lot healthier that way."

In 2015, the Government of Saskatchewan announced expanded victim services by opening up the Sask Central location, which is headquartered in Martensville.

Shewciw says they provide a helping hand for everything from assault, suicide, fire and other crime and non-related events.

"We provide information, advocacy, support and referrals for people that have been part of crime and traumatic events."

Shewciw is the former Executive Director of Safe Communities Humboldt and Area, moving to Sask Central Victim Services when it was announced.
