REACT is officially going through with their plan to develop a landfill in the RM of LeRoy.

Council unanimously approved the proposal on Tuesday night, after much debate over public concerns.

REACT general manager Wendy Yaworski says the company is ready to get started.

"The RM of LeRoy did a fine job with handling the process. REACT has spent a lot of time and effort into getting to this stage and now we have a lot of work to do and we will be moving forward."

Concerns from the public included Rodents, litter control and land contamination, and were all considered before the final decision was made.

Reeve of the RM Jerry McGrath explains what all went into the decision.

"There was people who had strong feelings against it. Administration and council did a lot of in-depth looking-into it. On Monday we had a conference call with Government relations about it, we had a conference call with the environment about it. So we tried to mitigate any problems as much as we could."

Conditions are being made to monitor serious concerns such as pond run-off and fencing off the landfill area.

Yaworski describes the timeline for the landfill.

"So right now for the tender packages to go out, oit probably won't be until mid-July or so until we get those back. Construction most likely wouldn't start until August if things move along smoothly."

McGrath says he is ready to go to get this project started.

"We want the thing developed, and we want to go through the spring, whether it's '17 or whether it's '18, depends on how long it takes to develop it. We want to see that the change in the water course does not hurt the farmers to the North or the people to the south. So we want to make sure it's going to work because any time you change a water course,  there is a lot of things that could happen."

The new landfill will be located 20 kilometers west and seven kilometers north of LeRoy.
