REACT is alerting residents of a slight change to how you dispose of your weekly recycling and waste.

Effective immediately, they are no longer accepting stretchable plastics in your recycling carts. They must instead be placed in your garbage cart.

Stretchable plastics include plastic bags, shopping bags, food wrap, and cellphane wrapping, among others.

REACT cites Loraas International in saying that changes to recycling in China - where most of your recycling goes - has led to the market for plastic film being "virtually eliminated".

"In order to ensure we can successfully recycle mixed paper and maintain viability of the recycling system, we are eliminating post-consumer plastic film from the material we can receive for processing at our plant."

They are also reminding residents about the procedure for weekly pick-up, which includes having all garbage or recycling items fit inside the cart with the lid closed.

If a cart is overfilled and the lid isn't fully sealed, your cart will not be tipped.
