An initial below normal projection for spring runoff has been boosted to near normal for Humboldt and area thanks to recent snowfall.

The Water Security Agency has projected the below normal runoff in February's forecast due to a lack of snow, combined with carryover from a fairly dry summer and fall.

Following around 30 centimetres of snow that fell, the WSA is now projecting a near normal runoff for the area.

Spokesperson Patrick Boyle says that is likely where things will remain for the area, barring another significant event.

Boyle says that while our area will see close to normal conditions, there are still parts of the province expected to experience below normal levels, even with the snowfall.

He added that a band stretching from Kindersley and west-central Saskatchewan down to the Estevan and Weyburn area is still in the drier column compared to the rest of the province.

Areas northeast of Humboldt, including Melfort, Tisdale, Kelvington, and Wadena, are in the above normal category.
