Even though it's expected none of the 25,000 Syrian refugees making their way to Canada in the next few months will be placed in Humboldt a new group has formed with the possibility of a couple families being sponsored which could allow them to move into the city.

Thursday night at the Gathering Place, the Humboldt and Area Refugee Coalition is hosting an information night. During the evening Klaus Gruber will speak to the attendees.

"He is the Refugee Coordinator for the Anglican Diocese of Saskatoon and he and his wife have sponsored refugees from all over the world together," explained Erin Ruel. Ruel is one of the people who spearheaded the forming of the local coalition which started from a meeting in late November.

"He's going to come and share a little bit about what's going on in Syria right now and talk about the logistics of sponsorship. He will be able to answer any questions or concerns people will have that night."

Since the inception of the group, Ruel says the reaction has been quite positive.

"It's been really good, people have been really coming forward with lots of really good resources and ideas and offers of support. The original meeting was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be so it's really exciting."

The meeting begins at 7 o'clock at the Gathering Place on 6th Avenue and 7th Street.
