The Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan and Foam Lake areas will see conditions favourable for the development of funnel clouds Wednesday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

The warning comes as a low pressure system is tracking through east central Saskatchewan into west central Manitoba.

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms, Environment Canada says in a weather advisory.

This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Landspout tornadoes do not usually cause significant damage but can still be dangerous. They can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances.

If conditions become more favourable for the development of landspout tornadoes, further watches and warnings will be issued by Environment Canada.

The risk of funnel clouds will end early this evening.
