Whether it is running for Mayor or Council, the City of Humboldt is now accepting nominations for October's Civic Election.

Returning Officer in Humboldt, Mike Ulriksen, says that there is a two-week period to get submissions in.

"Nomination period will run from (Wednesday Sept, 7) right through the 21st," he explained. "From then on, we've got a time to get to know those who are being nominated. We will share that information and they will have a chance to get their name out there and what they're running for and what their thoughts are."

Each nomination must have five signed electors of the city before the papers can be accepted by Ulriksen.

He added that there aren't many restrictions on who can run, outside of the obvious.

"You have to be 18 years of age and a Canadian citizen," he said. "There are some specifics for owning land in the City of Humboldt. You have to be a resident of Saskatchewan for a minimum of six months prior to election date. You have to be a resident of the City of Humboldt for a minimum of three months."

As of the first day of nominations on Wednesday, only two people - Roger Nordick and Larry Jorgenson - have publicly stated their intention to run in the election.

Nordick and Jorgenson are both councillors who will be up for re-election in those roles.

Ulriksen says that for those who are unsure about the process, there is an easy way to have questions resolved.

"City Hall has put a great document together that outlines with a fine comb, what the positions look like and what they all entail," he noted. "If you have any questions or you're even interested in the process, definitely give us a shout and let us fill you in on all the details."

Nominations will be accepted at City Hall or the Uniplex from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, until September 21.

Election Day is Wednesday, October 26.
