Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty announced on Monday afternoon that he is resigning his cabinet spot effective immediately.

The Rose Valley born Doherty says that he is resigning to focus on family issues that have recently come up.

He took over as Minister of Advanced Education on August 30 during the cabinet shuffle that saw Humboldt-Watrous MLA Donna Harpauer take over Doherty's former Finance profile.

He has also served as Parks Minister in the past.

Premier Brad Wall has appointed Battlefords MLA Herb Cox in place of Doherty, who will still hold his seat as MLA of Regina Northeast.
