New booster seat laws came into effect just under two years ago, and Safe Communities Humboldt and Area is continuing to promote awareness about those regulations.

On Saturday, they will be holding a car seat clinic at Discovery Ford.

"They're allowing us to use a couple of their service bays to host the clinic, so it will be undercover," Executive Director Shari Hinz explained. "Rain or shine we will have a couple technicians available for parents and families to have their infant seats and booster seats to get checked out and safetied."

The clinic will run from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Each inspection takes around ten minutes, and all kids who come by with their parents will receive a bag full of activities and goodies.

Hinz said that even though the new laws are two years old, it is important to continue to keep safety at the forefront, especially for new families.

"It's definitely for important for families to bring in - infact, we had an inquiry from some expecting parents that want to bring a seat in and make sure it is properly installed," she stated. "For new expecting parents that want to have that done, that's important to make sure they have a seat that is valid and falls within the warranty and registration guideline."

She added that car seats are a requirement for a certain age group.

"Booster seats are mandatory for children under age seven here in Saskatchewan. It's definitely important for (parents) to get them checked out and inspected and make sure they have their children properly restrained."

Fines for failing to secure your kid in an appropriate booster seat is $175.
