With agriculture a mainstay in the province of Saskatchewan, organizations are making sure local kids know what dangers are involved.

270 kids from St. Augustine and St. Dominic Schools took part in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days at the Humboldt Uniplex on October 3rd.

The event which marks the 10th anniversary of the annual safety event involves demonstrations in all areas of safety for the kids to take part in. These demos include more common safety topics such as Home, 911, rail, fire, electrical, open water and ice, and bicycle focuses. Along with more agricultural related demos including farm equipment, grain, animal and poison/chemical safety demos.

"When you either visit a farm, live on a farm, a lot of students even at young ages help their parents on the farm,  to understand the risks associated with agriculture is important.  We're an agricultural based community, so to be able to provide students with that knowledge at a young age, gives them the opportunity to take something away from the day. Even if it's one thing that can help keep themselves, their friends and family safe,  and as they get older, instill that culture of safety with them, that's what we want to do and achieve today," said Shari Hinz, The Executive Director of Safe Communities Humboldt and Area, and one of the organizers of the event.

To date, almost 1.7 million children and adults have taken part and been impacted by the event.
