Santa Days are once again set to jingle all the way to Watson Friday and Saturday.

The two days of events include pictures with Santa, sleigh rides, a turkey shoot, kid's jamboree, fireworks, a pancake breakfast plus a dinner Saturday night.

The event also focuses on local shopping, that's kind of the basis for the event as Co-Chair Myron Knafelc explains.

"It was started by a man named Jake Smith, he owned the local hardware store in town and he thought it would be a good idea to bring Santa Claus into the community for a visit just to prime up some business around town to the local businesses. It's worked very well, it's worked for the last 85 years."

The event started in 1932.

Knafelc says this is a big event every year for the community.

"Yeah, it sure is. It's something everybody sort of kicks off their Christmas season with and they're are quite excited. Especially the kids, they really enjoy this whole weekend."

Watson is actually credited with having Saskatchewan's first Santa Days, leading to the addition of their giant statue near the intersection of Highways 5 and 6.

Knafelc added that this event and Santa's presence makes their small town stand out.

"It really does, now that you mention that Santa Claus, it's amazing, it can be the middle of July and there's still people stopping to take pictures with the big Santa all year around."
