Humboldt MLA Donna Harpauer, Saskatchewan's Social Services Minister says the province is more than happy to recognize the week and raise awarenesss for the disability.

"We're very proud to recognize the National Down Syndrome awareness week in Saskatchewan. I think it just brings awareness and recognition to individuals who are experiencing disabilties and how they needed to be included in our communities.

Harpauer  says the province offers an income assistance program for people with Down syndrome and other disabilities.

"It's a program that alllows them dignity and income asssitance. It's seperate and apart from other social assistance programs. As well we have day programs and residential services for individuals who experience disabilities in our province and we have expanded those a great deal accross the entire province so they can be available in which the family members live."
