SaskEnergy is reminding customers to work safely when clearing snow.

They are advising homeowners and businesses to not bury or damage natural gas meters with falling snow or ice from rooftops or other areas.

The corporation says that each winter they typically respond to gas leaks caused by damage to meters because of snow, ice buildup, or snow removal.

They say that melting snow can also cause ice buildup as the temperature plunges overnight.

Among the included tips from SaskEnergy is to remove any built-up snow by hand and now to use a sharp instrument to scrape or chip ice or now.

Other tips revolve around not using a snowplow or snowblower near your meter.
