It's better to double check if your furnace is in working order now rather than in the depths of winter, and Sask Energy is there to help.

The SaskEnergy tune-up assistance program is now available for those who may not have put a furnace checkup on their fall to do list.

Lower income houses from all across Saskatchewan will be eligible to have their furnaces examined for free before the winter strikes. Homeowners with a combined income lower than $68,000 qualify to fill out an application to have a SaskEnergy network member perform a home heating tune-up.

Shannon Doka, a Community Involvement Leader says, "It builds on SaskEnergy's community investment program." "It's a great opportunity, bringing awareness and to help those that may not have the $250.00 to get that done. This is the added bonus to help folks when sometimes they don't think about that part of household maintenance."

In terms of inspection, SaskEnergy network members will examine the furnace making sure the blower compartment is properly working. Members will check to make sure the motor and fan are properly cleaned and lubricated, as well as look at the thermostat to determine if the entire system is ready for winter.

SaskEnergy will also cover up to $100.00 if a problem is discovered.

Residents who are interested may visit saskenergy.com to find the application. The deadline for applications is Sept 14th.
