Food collection is a yearly tradition around the Halloween season, but St. Augustine school has put a great twist on it.

For the third straight year the school has gathered non-perishable food items for the food bank.

Melissa Stockbrugger-Knaus with the school explains how they did it.

"We collected food over the last two weeks for our local food bank. We had a competition in the school to see which classroom could bring the greatest weight of food. The Grade 7's won with a total of 154kgs but the grand total for the entire school was 729kgs."

Stockbrugger-Knaus was very impressed with the students again this year.

"This is the greatest total for just the classroom donations," she also explaine last year's total "After the Grade 7's went door to door we literally had a tonne of food for Discovery Ford to pick up."

Some students will be going door to door tomorrow as well to collect non-perishables items instead of collecting candy.

Discovery Ford has once again hopped on board and is helping St. Augustine move the food to the Food Bank.
