Senior Safety Symposiums are scheduled for the month of November in the local area.

On Monday the first presentation took place in LeRoy where seniors aged 50 to 70 years took part. A second presentation is going on in Lanigan on November 20th from 10 AM to 2:50 PM with a come and go format. Safe Communities Humboldt in conjunction with many other organizations is spearheading the cause.

The subjects covered at the event are:

Preventing falls
Fraud prevention
Drug interaction
Senior abuse
55 alive mature driver program
Hazards of sitting
Motorized scooter safety
Fire safety
Carbon monoxide safety
Emergency plans

The information is presented to seniors through displays, professional presentations, and one on one questions. The reason the presentation was put on by Safe Communities Humboldt is seniors in rural communities don't have many programs that cover so many safety topics.

"It's just a great opportunity for individuals to get out and come together if there are seniors in communities that are isolated and don't have an opportunity to attend many things, this is a good way to get them out into the community to attain some nutrition and some great safety information," stated Shari Hinz, Executive Director of Safe Communities Humboldt.

A lunch was also provided to those who attended and the first 100 people in attendance receive a gift bag. The other organizations involved are Saskatchewan Health Authority, PARTNERS Family Services, RCMP, Pharmasave Humboldt, Lanigan Pharmacy, Saskatoon and District Safety Council, Lanigan and District Ambulance Association and the LeRoy Fire Department.
