The spotlight is on small businesses as October 16-20 is Small Business Week.

Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stacy Poss tells us why we should shop locally.

"It's our local economy. There are statistics that say for every dollar that's dropped here, it goes around our community several times. Also supporting local families, jobs, non-profits, organizations, everything. Small business is everything to our communities."

The Federal Government recently announced that it will cut the small-business tax rate from 10.5 per cent to nine percent by 2019. Poss tells us how this break may help small businesses.

"For small business owners, they don't get a salary every month. They don't have benefits, any money they make literally goes back into their business to pay their overhead costs. That break will be huge. For some, it will mean the difference of reinvesting back in their business and their ability to grow."

She adds that of all the businesses in Saskatchewan, about 98 per cent of them are considered small businesses.

With the Christmas season approaching, this time of year can be very busy for small businesses.
