The biggest fundraiser of the year for the St. Benedict Community Centre took place under sunny skies and above-norm temperatures on Saturday.

The Annual Snowmobile Rally kicked off in the community of St. Benedict in the morning, with participants entering their "hand" in the hopes of walking away a winner.  Each snowmobile rider picks their poker hand prior to the rally, and can win cash prizes with a good hand. Members of the community are also welcome to enter the poker rally, and try to win raffle and silent auction items. Many local businesses generously donated the door prizes and auction items for the event.

"It gets our community out working together. We get really good support from our community volunteers. It gets everybody out to say 'hi! How are you?'... It's nice to see everybody!" says Community Centre treasurer, Helen Martinka, who has been volunteering at the rally for many years.

Although the current snow conditions are not ideal at this point, Martinka still hopes for a good turn out. In previous years, the rally has boasted upwards of 300 sleds participating in the day's events and can range between 50-100 vehicles when the conditions aren't as good for snowmobiling.

Martinka says the Snowmobile Rally is the main fundraiser for the Community Centre and helps keep the building functioning throughout the year.
