A singing contest will soon be returning to Humboldt.

Arts Humboldt was on the receiving end of a donation for $3,800 from Bolt FM and DiscoverHumboldt.

"What we have been doing with this particular funding is running a contest called Sound Cheque Showcase," explained Larry Jorgenson. "This is the third year that we are going to be doing it."

Jorgenson added that they will release more details later on, with the contest expected to take place in the fall.

Support from the community has been a big deal for the organization, as the events hosted by Arts Humboldt always come with a price.

"Entertainment comes at a cost and if you don't have people that come out and support it, it can be a risky venture," noted Jorgenson. "Any time you can have a portion of those entertainment costs covered by donations or by other support, it lowers your risk and kind of takes the pressure off."

That support can be seen through contributing businesses, as well as attendees of each performance, according to Jorgenson.

"We have some diehard people that tend to come out to each show. But each show we also have different people coming out, and they are coming from across the region to check out these different artists, so it is great to see."

One of those shows recently took place, when Humboldt's Greg Torwalt and Too Soon Monsoon played a show.

A barbecue was held on August 12 along with Discovery Ford.

The organization will welcome an artist from Ontario in September and is also bringing back the Mizzoula Children's Theatre in partnership with PotashCorp.
