This Saturday the Humboldt Soup Kitchen is trying an event that hopefully put participants into the shoes of those less fortunate.

From noon on Saturday to 12pm on Sunday anyone who partakes in their 24 hour fast won't be allowed to eat over that time period.

Assistant Coordinator Linda Jurgens tells us more.

"To make awareness to the public of the need for people that are less fortunate and also people on the street. There are 30,000 people every night that are on the streets through out Canada and Canada only. We're going out there to make awareness to these needs."

Pledge forms for donations are available at the Gathering Place, if anyone is interested in taking part in the event contact Jurgens at 231-0454 of James Folster at 320-7165.

Jurgens says they hope to make it as real as possible and go beyond just not eating.

"We also are asking that there be no cell phones, no electronics, no ipads, no nothing like that and dress down. To dress down in some of your raggy clothes to get the feeling of what it's like to live on the streets and go hungry for 24 hours."

They do have other options to make the event a fun experience however.

"There's going to be activities," Jurgens added. "We also ask if you play the guitar or any musical instrument bring it along or if you have a favourite game bring the game along. Also bring a sleeping bag and a pillow because you are allowed to sleep," Jurgens laughed.

The event will be held at the Uniplex in Jubilee Hall, if anybody 15 and under wants to participate they ask that they have parental supervision.

The event will conclude with a much deserved pizza party after noon on Sunday.
