It was a successful weekend for many Special Olympics athletes of Humboldt and area.

The Summer Games were hosted in Moose Jaw from June 16 to 18.

During the opening ceremony, Swimmers Tia Zimmerman and Samantha Fisher led the contingent of 12 Prairie Central athletes into Mosaic Place.

Seven athletes competed in swimming, while five athletes competed in bowling.

In the pool, Fisher led the way, with six gold medals won. Zimmerman and Allen Gilbertson each won three gold and one silver.

Dallas Henry earned two gold and three silver, with Jessica Ehr winning one gold and three silver, and Tessa Baker picking up one gold and two silver. Jocelyn Ehr had one silver and three bronze.

A total of 30 medals were won in swimming by Prairie Central.

In bowling, Morris Matieshen secured a gold medal, while Shane Bendel won bronze.

As a team, Prairie Central, which also included Murray Renz, Matt Sauve and Chance Miller, won silver.
