It's back to work at the Saskatchewan Legislature, albeit with a slight twist.

The spring sitting gets underway with a new Premier after Scott Moe was elected leader of the Saskatchewan Party in January, taking over for the retired Brad Wall.

Although he served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Moe said that it will be a new feeling.

"I'm very much looking forward to this spring session, my first session."

Discussion over the next four weeks will continue to revolve around the 2018 provincial budget, according to Moe.

"I think there will be a real focus on the budget that we're bringing forward. We're in year two of our plan to balance the budget on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, and I think it's important to note that we do have a three-year plan and we are on track to achieve that."

Finance Minister and Humboldt-Watrous MLA Donna Harpauer tabled a third-quarter update in the first week of March that is projecting a lesser deficit than anticipated.

Monday's session also opens with a new leader of the opposition after Ryan Meili was elected to the top position for the New Democrats.

A new Speaker of the House will be needed too after Corey Tochor resigned to seek the Conservative riding in Saskatoon-University, where he successfully defeated former Humboldt MP, Brad Trost.
