An extreme cold warning is in effect for Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan, and Foam Lake.

A bitterly cold Arctic air mass has moved into southern Saskatchewan. Northerly winds of 15 to 20 km/h are combining with the extremely cold temperatures to produce dangerous wind chill values in the -40 to -45 range. These dangerous wind chill values will moderate slightly over the northwestern grainbelt tonight. However, over the remainder of the eastern grainbelt, gradual improvement is expected to occur on Wednesday.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk as you must watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill. Keep emergency supplies in your vehicles such as extra blankets and jumper cables. If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk of health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
