Peavey Mart has been a Humboldt fixture since 1968, and with a new expansion, it expects to serve the farm and ranch sector for a long time to come. Humboldt City Council joined Peavey Mart officials and staff for a "wire cutting" ceremony the morning of May 10th.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench is encouraged by the move as the expansion shows confidence in the retail marketplace of Humboldt and area. Muench says, "I'd like to thank them for showing confidence in our community. With this expansion, it provides another piece in the retail puzzle. We've tried to promote shopping locally and this is certainly going to help with that."

Muench sees this as another sign that Humboldt is open for business, and this degree of confidence will provide a signal to other retailers that Humboldt provides a robust shopping environment. "It shows that we are ready to expand not only in the west end but in existing buildings and businesses in the community."

David Simmonds, Senior Vice President for Store Operations with Peavey Mart, shares that same level of confidence in the community. He explains that confidence led to the decision to expand in order to provide a better shopping experience for the customer, but also to look after their workers. "Our previous facility was getting tired and really needed to be renewed. We recognized the challenges for our employees to work in that environment and for our customers to shop."

While inventory has expanded somewhat, the important drive of the renovation was to provide more spacious aisles and a store that is easier to navigate. While its core customer base remains farmers and ranchers, the wider selection appeals to homeowners, handypersons, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Simmonds maintains, "If you haven't visited a Peavey Mart recently, it's worth the trip."
