While they aren't quite old enough to vote yet, over 20,000 students across Saskatchewan had their say in Student Vote - a mock election held ahead of April's general election.

Over 300 schools sent students to the ballot box on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the Easter break.

One of the schools was Humboldt Collegiate Institute, which had 70 students in Grade 12 History and Grade 9 Social participate in the vote.

Principal Cory Popoff tells us about the process for the students in deciding who to vote for.

"They've been learning for the last few weeks about the candidates and about the different platforms for the parties."

Although the students are anywhere from one to four years away from being able to vote in an election, he says it helps prepare them for what is to come as adults.

"We're very excited for them to get that opportunity to cast ballots. Its such a wonderful learning experience for them because they get to learn about their responsibility as a citizen to cast that ballot for who is going to make decisions for them at the legislature."

Results from Student Vote 2016 will be revealed during election night when polls close on April 4.
