Blaine Taypotat, who pleaded guilty in the death of Watson conservation officer Justin Knackstedt is now appealing his sentence.

In June, Taypotat was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison for manslaughter following the May 2013 incident, in which while impaired, Taypotat struck Knackstedt on Highway 11.

Knackstedt had stopped to assist police in an accident.

Despite showing remorse, the sentencing judge stated that Taypotat not only had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit, he also fled the scene.

The appeal will be heard on December 10 in Regina.
