A Grade 12 student at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate has died following a two-vehicle collision south of the city on Tuesday.

Shortly before 3:00pm, Melfort RCMP responded to the scene at 44 Trail and Melinda Road - a grid road intersection south of Melfort.

Police discovered that the student, driving a southbound pickup truck, collided with a semi that was traveling east.

The student was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the semi was also taken to hospital as a precaution. No update was issued on his condition by police.

Police shut down the road for around eight hours on Tuesday as cleanup was conducted. 

An investigation continues.
