Organizations in the Humboldt area are settling in for one more week of fundraising before presenting their dollars at Telemiracle 41.

The annual telethon through the Kinsmen foundation assists Saskatchewan people to acquire special needs equipment and access medical treatment.

"The money goes back into the province in numerous ways. Individuals, group homes, travel, meals and accommodations. It helps a wide variety of people," says Telemiracle 41 Chair Darcy Wildeman.

He noted that there was initial concern that Telemiracle would be a one-and-done situation when it first began.

"We're very excited that 41 years later we are still doing this amazing fundraiser," explained Wildeman. "If you go back 41 years, there was a gentleman involved from Lloydminster, and he thought it would never make a second year."

For the show to continue on throughout the years, Wildeman says that it takes a wide range of people to help tie everything together on an annual basis.

"There's approximately 20 members on the committee, and then about 500 Kinsmen and Kinette volunteers around the province who make this work, and then hundreds more who run around the building with numerous other categories."

With all the planning from the show committee each year, and then the many organizations, schools and individuals who have their own fundraisers, the telethon is uniquely Saskatchewan.

"It's an unbelievable feeling. There is a year and a half of committee work prior to the show happening," said Wildeman. "When the show kicks off and things are rolling smoothly, it's nice to kick back and relax, but there is lots of areas to still look after."

This year, there is one local performer, as the Winston Garage Band from Watrous High School will take the stage.

Throughout the 20 hours, there will be many other local individuals involved, including some area schools who will have students serve as toteboard volunteers, putting the running fundraising total on the wall.

Telemiracle 41 begins at 9:00pm on Saturday, March 4, concluding at 5:00pm on Sunday, March 5.
