Two local cancer survivors spent October 1st in Saskatoon with their friends and family on the team, 'The Bold And The Boobless' as they participated in the CIBC Run for The Cure.

Karen Weiman and Karen Siermachesky both local ladies who have been diagnosed and survived breast cancer participated in the run with their family and friends and raised $3487.00 with a team consisting of 16 members.

Karen Siermachesky tells us how the run started.

"Back in 1992 there was a small group of volunteers that began a moment in Toronto it started off with 15,000 people and they raised 85,000 for the breast cancer cause then in 1997 the CIBC Run for the Cure started and it is a partnership between the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation who has now joined forces with the Canadian Cancer Society, CIBC, and communities across the country. So what the event does it brings together an absolutely incredible community of people who have a personal connection to breast cancer and who want to show their support for those who have been affected by breast cancer."

Siermachesky has been Cancer free for some time now and just wants to be a change maker.

"I want to be a change maker I want to change the future for what breast cancer will look like for other people. I want the rate of breast cancer diagnoses to decrease because of education and prevention. I want people to survive longer because of better treatment options, I don't want people to experience the sames kind of physical things and emotional things I experienced and I know that research dollars will change the treatment options. I also would like the dollars to continue to come in to provide support for those who are diagnosed."

Weiman tells us who can participate in the walk.

"Our family friends really anybody can participate in this walk they don't have to have a family member or significant loved one, or friend, with breast cancer if you want to get out and support this cause you can. Whoever wants to be a change maker I highly suggest this walk."
