The Good Neighbour Store is celebrating 25 years in operation this week.

A ceremony was held in the store Wednesday morning where Mayor Rob Muench and Good Neighbour Store Board Chair Maureen Doetzel made speeches.

Doestzel says that while a lot has changed over the last 25 years, it's still practically the same store.

"We've done a lot of renovations, we have between 150 and 160 active volunteers, we need about 20 per day to run the store. We still take in stuff, we sort everything, and we price it. That all stays the same."

She tells us a bit about their history and their celebrations this week.

"We started in 1992 by the Ministerial Association of Humboldt, and we have continued since. We're having a half price sale on everything all week. We're having donuts and coffee all week as well."

Doetzel continues on explaining what it says about the Community of Humboldt being able to stay in operation for the last 25 years.

"It says to a lot of people that we are fluent in this area. A lot of stuff can be used again and instead of taking it to the landfill they bring it here to help out other people who aren't as fortunate."

She adds that the many volunteers are a crucial part as to why the store succeeds.

The Good Neighbour Store building was recently purchased from the City of Humboldt, you can read more about that here.
