The Saskatchewan Sports Awards have announced their 2016 Athlete of the Year Award Finalists, and three local athletes are in the running for awards.

Humboldt's Brianne Theisen-Eaton and St. Brieux's Jillian Gallays are both in the running for Female athlete of the year.

Humboldt's William Dutton is vying for Male Athlete of the Year honours.

Theisen-Eaton won Olympic Bronze in Heptathlon in Rio, while Gallays also participated in the Olympics for Wrestling, and won a Gold at the Pan-Am Olympic Qualifier in Texas.

Dutton returned to the Oval this year won silver in the 500 metre race at the World Cup in Calgary, and broke the Provincial Speed Skating track record in the 500 metre race.

The awards will be presented March 23rd in Saskatoon
