A partial solar eclipse can be viewed on Monday, which will lead to many eyes being turned towards the great ball of light in the sky.

However, just because the sun will be partially blocked, doesn't mean your eyes are safe from blinding light.

Dr. Curtis Knight of Humboldt Vision Centre and the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists provided tips for Monday's event:

  • Ensure your eyes are protected by using approved solar eclipse viewers. Sunglasses are not sufficient protection.
  • Staring at the sun without protection can cause damage to your retina
  • If you can't find protective eyewear, you can make a pinhole projector to watch the eclipse.

In Saskatchewan, anywhere from 60 to 75% of the sun will be blocked out on Monday. The eclipse begins at around 10:30am, hitting its peak close to the noon hour.
