The Carlton Trail Toastmasters Speech Contest is returning for another event.

President of Carlton Trail toastmasters Matt Hillier explains what a toastmaster is.

"Toastmaster is a place where you can go learn how to be a better public speaker, and it teaches you how to do evaluations and you also are able to work on your listening skills."

The event that is being held is an Area Contest for Humorous and Table Topics.

Hillier explains that people like to attend these events for practice on public speaking.

"They have to do some public speaking either in their work or they may want to talk better to their family and Toastmasters can provide a way in a positive environment and help them along their way to become a better leady and a better public speaker."

He tells us what someone can expect if checking out the event.

"It's a humorous contest making the crowd entertained. So they're going to be judged on certain categories, on the content, the speech development, on their delivery, how they have physically prepared themselves and their language and grammar. On the table topics, you get asked a random question and you have to talk about it for at least a minute."

The Carlton Trail Toastmasters are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.

The event will take place at the Anglican Church in Humboldt on October 19 between 7-9pm.

All are welcome to check it out.
