With the most recent storms causing an excess of water, high winds, and in some places hail, tornado hunter Chris Chittick was on hand yesterday in the Humboldt area.

Chittick came ready to help the residents of Humboldt and area with a presentation at Discovery Ford last night.

Chittick tells us what we should do in case of emergency.

"I guess, number one thing is to come up with a game plan, like how schools practice fire drills and what-not, practice your extreme weather drill. If you have a basement, get into the basement, if you don't have a basement you want to get into the most interior bedroom, closet, bathroom, hallway of your house. Maybe your house isn't the best house, maybe go to a neighbors house, but the best thing to do is come up with a game plan."

Chittick says staying up to date through local media is critical.

"If Lightning or thunder is going on, try to get indoors, seek shelter. Best thing to do is turn on the radio, turn on the TV. The News and the radio stations are doing a really good job nowadays of keeping people up to date, saying 'hey the storm is located here, it's going to be here in five minutes.' And I guess just pay attention to the warnings."

Chittick says staying up to date with storm information is critical for staying safe.

"Everyone should purchase a weather radio in case the power goes out, the weather radio will go on, it keeps people up to date on what's happening with the storms. It's not really too prevalent in this area of tornado alley but the best thing to do is have a storm shelter."

Chittick has been storm chasing for 15 years, capturing 423 tornadoes and 10 hurricanes on video in his time, and along with Greg Johnson, stars on the TV show Tornado Hunters.

Tornado Hunters can be seen on CMT.
