Some volatile weather is moving into the east central Saskatchewan region before the weekend.

Around 3 pm Environment Canada issued a watch for Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan and Foam Lake.

"This area of thunderstorms that have developed over south central Saskatchewan, the low-level dynamics are favourable for tornadic development in the Humboldt region," explained Environment Canada meteorologist Jesse Wagar.

"There are several thunderstorms that have fired late Friday afternoon, those will continue to move off to the east and north east," Wagar continued.

Around 3:30 pm a tornado warning was issued for the Rural Municipality of Foam Lake, the Town of Foam Lake and the Fishing Lake First Nation.

Wagar explains what residents should watch out for.

"Localized lowering of clouds, that's what we call a 'wall cloud' and generally a funnel cloud will be produced out of that area there. Most importantly I think if you are just paying attention to the watches and warnings issued by Environment Canada that should give you the heads up there's something in your area and you should take precaution."

The system should move out of the region by Saturday afternoon. Up to 25 millimetres of rain is predicted Friday.
