The Toys for tickets campaign is returning for the 2016 holiday season.

Starting on Tuesday, proceeds from traffic tickets will be donated to the  toys for tickets campaign.

Colby McClelland is the Community Development Coordinator for the City of Humboldt.

He explains what makes this campaign so important.

"During the holiday season, it's really a season of giving. The City of Humboldt will really take every opportunity it can to give back to the community, especially in our youth. So what makes it really important is that not every family is fortunate, especially during the holiday season. These funds go to support the less fortunate families."

McClelland describes how it works.

"The Toys for Ticket campaign, this year is going to be running from November 15th to December 15th. During this time frame, if someone receives a parking ticket or traffic violation, they City donates the ticket payment amount towards toy purchases for youth in need in our community."

McClelland talks about the results from past years.

"I would say looking back, it has been fairly successful. In our  first year we raised $750. The next year, not so much. People were on their best behavior, we only raised $50. But consistently it's been around the 500-600 dollar range."

McClelland adds that cash donations can also be made, and given to city hall during regular office hours.
