Overall the weather through spring and the early part of summer has been unseasonably chilly, but as we reach Canada Day the mercury is set to rise just in time for a real big birthday.

A modest high of 21 is expected for Saturday but by the the holiday Monday daytime highs will be in the 30 degree range.

Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Laing explained that the warming trend won't necessarily bring extreme weather either.

"We do always have that possibility of thunderstorms, we don't at this time see any major outbreaks of thunderstorms. Hopefully the atmosphere will stay relatively stable and we won't have any big one roll through."

She reports the wind will likely stay away as well which will be a welcome change for the region this year.

"That's one benefit, the statistics show it has been a windy spring into early summer."

Sunday does call for a little cloud cover and a light chance of rain but skies clear heading into the statutory holiday on Monday with a 30 degree high.

Tuesday's expected 29 degree high is the only day of the work week not predicted to reach the 30's.
