Farmers around the Humboldt area have about 10 percent of crops in the bin for the 2018 harvest season so far.

As a result of the dry weather in Mid August, some farmers were already in the combine harvesting grain and getting it into the bin last month. Dwight Odelein, a farmer near Quill Lake was shocked how soon the Harvest season arrived.

"I had 4 quarters of Barley seeded this year, I seeded it first, and it was in the bin by the 15th of August. I've never done that before."

Although since the harvest season has arrived much sooner than expected, farmers are not as rushed as usual as certain crops are progressively ripening. Unfortunately the yield and moisture content has not been consistent in the area as it varies on a wide scale.

Last week some light rain put the harvest season on pause for a few days and with cool nights, it prevents farmers from working into the late hours of the day.

"when it gets this wet it usually starts early in the evening, the previous evening, I think we quit around 9:30 last night, typically when you can start in August you get these big days, but haven't had too many of those."
