Vey Day was a success, Wakaw Mayor Steven Skoworodko says.

People wore red, businesses and the school decorated their windows and Canadian flags and Olympic memoribilia were displayed around town, he said.

Kids also had fun playing floor hockey and ice hockey, he said.

"So I think overall it was really recieved well throughout the community."

The town celebrated Vey Day on February 14th in honour of Linden Vey, who is a member of the Canadian mens hockey team at the winter games. He is the only player on the team from Saskatchewan.

The community came up with the slogan "Small Town, Big Pride" which has been posted all over town.

The town will be coming together at the rec centre Friday for a viewing party as Canada takes on the Czech Republic.

Skoworodko hopes to have more games shown - especially if Canada makes it to the gold medal game.
