The town of Wadena celebrated their town and country fair on the weekend.

The fair has been running off and on for 47 years, dating to back when chuckwagons were the only attraction.

Sara Sobchysyn is part of the Wadena Town and Country Fair Committee.

She talks about some of the events that took place on saturday.

"We started off the day with the pancake breakfast sponsored by the Wadena Coop. We had a great turn out for that, which lead into the parade, which we had lots of floats, and Main Street was full of all the spectators. Hope everyone had a great time. Then we came out to the Sportsgrounds, and Wadena Baptist Church has set up fantastic kids activities, lots of family fun out here."

The event included various events yesterday, including a demolition derby, kids activities and various horseback riding events.

Isla Kiland, also from the Wadena Town and Country Fair Committee says the work of volunteers allows this event to be possible.

"This fair wouldn't be a success without the community and all of their support, as well as the volunteers that helps out. We're a committee of about seven, and without the support of all the additional volunteers working the gates and such, it just wouldn't make it happen."

Sobchysyn talks about where the funds go to.

"It goesw back to our town and country fair board just to make it bigger and better for every year, just to continue to bring different attractions to our town people and our surrounding areas, so we can come out and have family fun, and keep the community spirit alive."

The weekend in Wadena concludes with Slo-Pitch all day Sunday.
