The financial stress of post-secondary schooling is no longer a worry for a Wakaw School graduate.

In late March, Wakaw School 2020 graduate Hannah Gaudry received a full scholarship from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association to attend Eastern New Mexico University (ENMC). The scholarship will cover the entirety of Gaudry's tuition at ENMU as she enters into Biology Education.

"So when I get back to Canada after four years, I'd like to get into a medical school so I'm going to focus on my biology and sciences to study for an MCAT exam," said Gaudry.

While attending ENMU in Portales, New Mexico, Gaudry will be rodeoing in Texas with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The 8-year rodeo rider has been a part of the Saskatchewan Highschool Rodeo Association for six years now and has competed in many national competitions.

Back in 2019, Gaudry made up a portfolio and handed it out to a number of coaches while participating in a breakaway roping event in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Albert Flinn, a coach with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, approached Gaudry after her run and expressed his interest in her skills.

It wasn't until December that Gaudry once again showed off her skills in Las Vegas, Nevada where Flinn offered a tour of ENMU. From there, Gaudry was offered the scholarship and accepted the offer at the end of March. The University impressed Gaudry with their amazing facilities which will help her improve her skills.

"I really hope I can get down there and do good for the rodeo team while getting some points for the college and hopefully make it to the college finals."

Orientation is slated for August 10th and Gaudry is optimistic she'll make it south of the border in time.
