With April being 'Autism Awareness Month' one last event was held Friday in Humboldt.

A walk was held at Glenn Hall Park with about 200 people taking part.

Cherene Erikson, who has a daughter with Autism has led the charge of advocacy all month long.

"It has been crazy but amazing," she said after launching the walk. "So many people now know more about Autism and are aware about it, that's been my goal along with everybody else. Just to get the awareness out there so I think we've succeeded so far."

Other events were an open house at Humboldt and District Community Services plus the Blue Bulb campaign but the walk did hit home for her as many of her daughter's peers from Humboldt Public School took part.

"I want to cry right now, I am so moved by how many people have come out, not just the school but the community. Surrounding communities, we have people from Muenster and also from Bruno, it's just been amazing the support we've gotten so far."

The month of awareness does come to an end but obviously Erikson's connection to the condition is life long, she simply hopes advocacy continues as well.

"Definitely continue, my efforts probably won't be as crazy as they were in April but for myself I will be continuing all year long."

At the end of the walk Erikson was also challenged to choose some lucky prize winners from a poster contest they held in conjunction with the event.
