Walkers will be out in full force on Sunday morning in Humboldt, as the annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes takes place.

Cailin Hergott says raising awareness is a big part of the walk.

"Education on things like the differences between type 1 and type 2 and how to support those of us who have type 1. Things like that."

She added that some may be surprised with how many in the area actually do have diabetes.

"There's more of us here than probably the public is aware of," she noted. "We'd just like to encourage everybody to do some fundraising to help us find that cure."

Registration for the walk begins at 10:00am on Sunday, with the walk starting up at 11:00am, leaving from the Uniplex main entrance.

Hergott says that ideally they would like to see every walker raise atleast $100, however, that is not a requirement, and they also welcome anyone who would just like to walk.

To help raise some additional funds last year, the group introduced a silent auction, which will be returning again this year according to Hergott.

"At the walk, we have asked a lot of businesses around town and other small communities to donate prizes for our silent auction," she said. "We have a pretty good selection this year."

Hergott added that every dollar counts, but typically they set a goal to pass $30,000, which they did last year, reaching $35,000.

Fundraising can be done both online and in person, and thus far through online donations, $8,000 has been raised for this year.
