The winner of the Great 8 contest received their $5000 cheque Wednesday.

The Village of Middle Lake was the recipient of the money, Administrator Collete Hauser tells us what the money will be used towards.

"This money will be going right here at the multiplex. We're calling this Lions Park because the Lions of done so much for the Multiplex and for this area."

The Great 8 contest was eight communities competing for votes with the winner receiving $5000 to go towards community projects from Potash Corp Lanigan. Being the smallest community in the contest, Middle Lake was able to beat the odds and receive the most votes, as Hauser explains.

"On Facebook we had people share and share. I found out after we had people from Mexico, from across the U.S. and across Canada all voting. People who used to live here and people who live here now really turned out."

The other end of the prize money was PCS Lanigan General Manager Rob Jackson. He says they enjoy helping out local communities.

"We're always looking for opportunities to enhance and improve quality of life in the areas that we operate and we thought it was a great idea when Bolt FM brought it to us."
