The Watrous Rotary Club is hoping to finish a job they started 5 years ago.

Fundraising for the second phase of the Watrous walking trail has started for the volunteer group.

Al Mosewich is the President of the Rotary Club.

He talks about the importance of this trail.

"The Watrous Rotary Trail is more than just a walking path or a paved trail you can ride your bike on, it is the ability to get out of town and experience an adventure in nature. It is fully wheelchair accessible, it's safe for kids on bikes, even little ones on trikes, Mom's with strollers, Dad's walking their dogs."

The Watrous Rotary Club is hoping to finish off a walking trail, holding fundraisers withing the next couple of months.

Mosewich explains why the Rotary club fund raises for projects like this.

"The Rotary is an International organization with Global objectives such as the ratification of Polio, and the elevation of suffering families often endure during natural disasters, through targeted programs like shelter box."

The first phase, about 1.6 kilometres of paved trail, was completed back in 2011.

Mosewich describes the route for the second half of the trail.

"In the second phase of the trail, the path will be adjacent to Highway 365, from the junction at Main Street to third street East. This is best known as the Highway between Watrous and Manitou Beach."

On September 10th, the Rotary club will be teaming up with Centennial Ford for a test drive fundraiser, and on October 1st, "Oktober Fest" will take place at the Watrous Curling Club.

Both events will have proceeds going to the walking trail.
